热点——站在巨人的肩膀上
Sir Isaac Newton was once praised for discovering the Theory of Gravity(地心引力). He said the success was only possible because he had “stood on the shoulders of giants”. In other words, his work was built on the efforts of scientists who had lived before him. This is true for science. In fact, it is also true for society. All progress comes from new generations(一代人), building on the efforts of older generations.
The People’s Republic of China was founded 70 years ago because of the efforts of a number of giants. “Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping and many, many others built the foundation(基础) for the PRC. And each generation that followed these giants has continued to build the country.
However, past success does not guarantee future success. It’s going to be up to your generation to make sure that China keeps moving forward. If you are strong, China will be strong. If you are positive, China will be positive. And if you work hard to be successful, China will be successful.
Luckily, you have many role models from the past to give you inspiration(灵感). One who I admire a lot is Song Qingling. She was educated in America and spoke perfect English. However, she decided to return to China and devote(献身) her life to helping children. There is an exhibition about her life now at the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center. Madam Song was truly a giant.
You can stand on her shoulders to help build the future.
