英语中有很多长相相似的单词，在使用中容易混淆。其实他们的意思不一定类似或相同，这就要求我们学习时多留心它们的具体意思及使用方法。

uninterested与disinterested、childlike与childish这两对形容词看起来长相差不多，但意思不一定接近。

uninterested和disinterested

uninterested和disinterested都是形容词，长相类似，同时interested前面的前缀-un和-dis都表示否定的意思。但他们表达的意思完全不同。

形容词uninterested表示“没有兴趣的，不关心的”，可以做表语或者定语，比如：He seemed utterly uninterested in all these matters.他似乎对所有这些事情都漠不关心。再比如：An uninterested boy can spoil a class.一个态度冷淡的孩子能破坏一个班。He is totally uninterested in sport.他对体育运动毫无兴趣。需要注意的是：uninterested在表示对某事“没有兴趣的，不关心的”时，后面经常跟介词in。

disinterested的意思是“公正的，无私的，不偏心的”，可以用作表语。比如：A judge should be disinterested.法官应该公正。再比如：Hs action was not disinterested because he hoped to make money out of the affairs.他的行为是不公正的，因为他想从这件事中赚一笔钱。Her advice appeared to be disinterested.她的建议似乎是客观公正的。A fair man should be disinterested.一个公正的人应该是无偏见的。这句的disinterested是“无偏见，不偏心”的意思。The counselor gave some disinterested advice.顾问给了我们一些无私的忠告。

childlike和childish。

另外一组是childlike和childish。childlike由child与like构成，childish是由词根child（儿童） + ish 形容词词尾，表示性质组成。childlike的意思是“孩子般天真，诚实的”，多指具有孩子般天真、纯洁、坦率的美德。它也可以用来指成年人，含有褒义。它可以放在名词前做定语。比如：

She has a childlike enthusiasm for the circus.他对马戏有孩子般的热情。再比如：The young man acts with childlike simplicity.这个年轻人行动像孩子那样天真单纯。His most enduring quality is his childlike innocence.他最持久不变的特质是孩子般的天真无邪。childlike也可以放在系动词后做表语，比如：She thinks I'm too short and childlike!她认为我太矮，而且太孩子气！

childish的意思是“孩子气的，幼稚的，愚蠢的”，主要指成人放任而不能克制感情，思想不成熟，含有贬义。它可以在句中做表语或定语。比如：

He is too childish.

It’s time you put a stop to this childish behavior.这种孩子气的行为你该收敛了。To act like that is childish.那样做太幼稚了。再比如：She’s just being childish and immature.她真是小孩子气，太冒失了。
